This 8th edition of the a ppr oc he show highlights 15 solo exhibitions by French and international artists, offering a wide range of artistic practices around the image. The themes of memory and identity, recurrent among contemporary artists, are given particular prominence.
Italian artist Alessandra Calò uses the oleotype technique to invite us to redefine our perception of reality. For his part, Alexandre Dupeyron strives to capture the essence of a world in perpetual motion, revealing new ways of apprehending reality. Vietnamese artist Hiền Hoàng, meanwhile, explores a variety of media – photography, immersive installation, performance, film, virtual reality and sculpture – to investigate cultural narratives. Sara Imloul, through her autobiographical theatrical photography enriched with drawing and collage, proposes a profound reflection on her own identity. Benoît Lefeuvre, for his part, highlights the invisible processes that shape our collective and individual memory, using photosensitive materials whose chemical agents decompose naturally or through manipulation. Sandrine Marc presents abstract works in dialogue with real-life shots, offering an archive of the everyday. Jackie Mulder, meanwhile, fuses photography, embroidery, textile work and drawing, where photography serves as the foundation for a new reality composed of multiple layers. Exploring urban environments is central to the work of Daniel Bourgais and Inês D’Orey. Daniel Bourgais uses photogrammetry to collect traces of a world in mutation, while Inês d’Orey bears witness to the transformation of heritage in modern cities, evoking a feeling of universal solitude through the absence of human presence. Rooted in current social issues, Anthony Morel’s performative work exploits the resources of his surroundings, inviting us into a world that questions our relationship with time and our environment. Jesse Wallace’s photographic and sculptural work recomposes suspended landscapes, echoes of human exploitation in the heart of nature, captured on the other side of the world. Susanne Wellm uses archival photography and weaving to explore the notion of time, memory and the construction of narrative, while weaving her own narratives. Antoine De Winter explores self-representation in the age of social networks and artificial intelligence, using traditional photographic techniques. Finally, Isabelle Chapuis and Elles Walschaerts both bear witness to their intimate relationship with the elements: Isabelle Chapuis creates unique works combining landscape photographs painted with earthy washes from the captured landscape, while with her cyanotypes, Elles Walschaerts visualizes and captures what she feels, sees and hears.
For this 8th edition, the show is delighted to welcome PODA, La Petite OEuvre D’Art, a collection featuring 14 artists and over 400 single-format works, presented in a case that serves as both frame and hanging system. A selection of artists whose work resonates with the show’s identity has been carefully chosen. Always on the lookout for new methods of distribution, the a ppr oc he fair has teamed up with the Ikigai Labs platform, which specializes in digital art within virtual spaces, thus fostering a direct link between creators and collectors. Together, these two entities are launching a ppr oc he extended, an innovative virtual extension of the show, scheduled to run from November 15 to 17, 2024. This project aims to establish a link between the salon’s physical presence at Le Molière and a virtual artistic proposal in the Ikigai Labs gallery, co-curated by Dominique Moulon, curator and member of the c-e-a association, expert in virtual spaces and new forms of exhibition.
This initiative follows on from our first fruitful collaboration on the 2nd edition of unRepresented, reinforcing our partnership with c-e-a. The program will be rounded out by two satellite exhibitions, both of which focus on experimentation with images. The first will take place in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, in a space occupied by Réseau LUX, a network of photography festivals and fairs. We’ll be delighted to present the ground-breaking work of Sylvie Bonnot, who took part in the a ppr oc he en 2021 fair. In collaboration with the Musée et Château de Tours and Le Hangar in Brussels, she will be exhibiting works created in 2024, illustrating the impacts of climate disruption on natural environments, inspired by her explorations in Burgundy and French Guiana. The second, a stone’s throw from Le Molière in partnership with Drawing Hôtel, will showcase works by French artist Juliette Andrea-Élie. Juliette explores a universe blending photography and drawing, while questioning the complex representation of landscape in the age of the Anthropocene. The entire a ppr oc he team looks forward to seeing you again in early November to discover a rich program, combining physical and digital paths, dedicated to experimentation with images.
