This summer, Les Douches La Galerie welcomes Philippe Séclier’s travel journal. Between 1995 and 2000, the photographer immortalized some 100 ports. In particular, Valparaiso, a stronghold of South American photography, to which he returned four times. Valpo retraces his explorations of the Chilean port. He captures the magic of the mythical docks in an expressionist style.
A former journalist, Séclier is interested in photography in all its forms. He has published five books: Hôtel Puerto (2001), a long-form study of the world’s ports; La longue route de sable (2005), in the footsteps of Italian writer and filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini; El camino de Tulahuèn (2014), in the footsteps of Chilean photographer Sergio Larrain; La jeune fille à la fleur (2017), an investigation of Marc Riboud’s famous photo; and, most recently, Atlas Tadao Ando, a visual accumulation of over 120 buildings by the celebrated Japanese architect, master of volumes and light (2021).
